I just finished reading Heidi St. John’s latest book, The Busy Homeschool Mom’s Guide to Daylight; Managing Your Days Through the Homeschool Years.

I was looking forward to reading this book for several reasons.

  1. I am an organizational book junkie.
  2. It was written specifically BY and FOR a home educator. We have specific issues that are best addressed from an insider perspective.
  3. Heidi and her husband have 7 children which means she has more children than me.  So her tips will be helpful and relevant.  I have a hard time taking a home management book seriously when written by a mom with one child.
  4. Heidi is someone I already admire because she is godly, fun, talented and a respected writer and speaker.

Once I started reading her book I was thrilled to find it did not disappoint. In her humorous and inspirational way she covers topics such as living intentionally, organization, schedules- here she shares her own schedules but also several other women’s as well.  I always love to see how other women spend their days, don’t you?mealtimes, wasted time (yikes!) discouragement – who hasn’t experienced this at one time or other?

My favorite chapter was on surrendering.  In it, Heidi uses scripture to discuss the tendancy of homeschool mothers to play the comparison game.  It is so easy when thhings are going well to judge others harshly, and likewise when things are not going well to see other’s lives with rose colored glasses and our own as a den of misery.  This chapter helps us keep the proper perspective.

I enjoyed this book and give it two thumbs up from our family!
