Homeschool Copywork Review

Homeschool Copywork  has given our family the opportunity to review their copy work and has given us a Lifetime Membership  to their Copywork site. I am thankful for the lifetime membership because I can see many areas we can use this over the upcoming years as my students progress to other studies.

12966772_10153902507647702_298398095_nCopywork  consists of providing the student quality literature in short phrases to practice handwriting. But in addition to learning good penmanship, they are also learning vocabulary, punctuation, and at times, history and character lessons as well. For younger children, such as my three-year-old, it gives them pride in their workmanship and helps develop the skills necessary for future more rigorous lessons.

Currently I am using this with Rebecca. She is 3, really too young to do a full curriculum. But she is very interested in letters, art, coloring, and paperwork. Since everyone else in the house has school work and such that they do all day, it seems natural to her that she have some “school” for herself.  So we chose to print and use the:

Animal Alphabet Copywork Pages – which includes 26 pages of sweet animal phrases to copy and color, one for each letter of the alphabet. This was perfect for Rebecca. She can keep the pages separate and just do them occasionally, or you can put them in a binder together or make a little book out of them that the student can refer to over and over. In our house, the children love to color and hang their daily creations on the fridge or white board, so we kept ours loose.

This is a perfect little activity if you have an older child who works with your younger ones, or if you have a grandparent who enjoys doing school with your younger ones. For us, it was a great fill-in. Rebecca usually spends a lot of time one-on-one with her grandmother, and she had a kidney transplant, followed immediately by some unforeseen complications. She has been in the hospital for three weeks. Rebecca has had a bit of difficulty moving from her constant attention, to being more independent. This little copy book helped bridge the gap, plus she got to color in the little animals and talk about the letters, and then send her pictures as gifts along with whoever was going to the hospital to visit grandma. It’s been a sweet little blessing.

But iAll Creatures of our God and King Hymn Study and Copywork_zpscemnuftmn the future, there are many more copybooks I can’t wait to use!

One thing we love in our family is hymns. We spend a lot of time on music, having kids over for jam sessions, and all volunteer in the worship ministry in a number of areas. So when I saw this one, I was thrilled:  All Creatures of Our God and King Hymn Study and Copy book. This printable book contains over 50 pages. It covers the entire hymn, inlcuding some of the history of behind the hymn and the author. The copybook part includes the option for you to create your pages with print or italics or cursive. Each page has the copywork and a pretty drawing to color as well. Finally, the copy of the music with lyrics is included.

There are other hymns as well such as: O Love That Will Not Let Me Go, Amazing Grace, and Be Thou My vision, and others.

Another copy book I am looking forward to using is a scripture copybook. We do put a strong emphasis on Scripture study in our home, and I am really looking forward to adding a copybook element to our study. One in particular that caught my eye was the Copybook for a Study of the Armor of God based upon Ephesians 6:10-18, including knightly graphics.Homeschool Copywork Armor of God Copywork_zps63vfj3u2

I also hope to put the Armor of God study to use soon! There were so many great resources available, it was hard to choose.
