What inspires you?

This morning, I woke up inspired. I have a mission today. Our family is going on a mission trip in a couple of weeks, and this one will include both my husband and me and all our children still living at home. Ten years ago, for our 15th anniversary we did a mission trip to the very same place, just Duncan and me. It seems fitting we will be celebrating our 25th in the same town. We are travelling to Lynch, KY, a highly impoverished area to serve along with a church there doing ministry, serving meals and providing fun and healthy summer activities for the children there.
She opens her arms to the poor.
Today, I am making our own family’s meals ahead for this trip, because each family is providing their own meals. So, I woke up excited and ready to get things done!
She works with eager hands.

But some days, I am not so inspired. I wake up to feuding children, a messy kitchen, grass that needs to be cut, a child who is sick, a pile of paperwork. or any other things that if left in isolation would make me want to go back to bed. But that is the beautiful call of motherhood. Some days are inspiring and some days, you have to seek inspiration!  On every day, I have learned to start with a few minutes of scripture reading (on some days more than a few minutes) and my thoughts shift.
She watches over the affairs of her household.

Feuding children become an interesting challenge to settle them into good activities. A messy kitchen becomes a race against a timer I have set, or a chance to let one of my children shine. Grass needing to be cut becomes exercise for the day, and a sick child reminds me of my days working outside the home when a child with a fever meant a scramble and panic to find alternative child care or to discuss which of us could most afford to miss work for the day.
She speaks with wisdom.

I also try to keep myself reminded of God’s word by putting it around my house. It’s literally the art on my walls. Do you think this is something you could use to stay inspired? If so, I am thrilled to share with you our new line of Momspiration products- designed by my own daughter.

You may be inspired to know that all the profits from this sale will go to cover the cost of our mission trip!
By driving to the destination and providing all our own meals, we are keeping the financial expenses of this trip as low as possible, so that our money can go directly to helping the children we are going to love, enjoy and share the love of Christ.

We’d love for you to join us in prayer for each child and each family we will meet, that we are an encouragement and a blessing. Also, please pray that all the normal aspects of having a large family don’t hurt our ability to serve. Illness, injury, and even just petty annoyances and fatigue can be detrimental when on a mission trip with all our children. Things that are normal at home become worse when you are trying to serve – so pray that our “real life” can not interrupt what we are trying to do for the people we are going to meet.
