Book Review: Baby’s First Foods by Theresa Powers

Book Review: Baby’s First Foods; A Mother’s Guide to Whole Grains and Family Nourishment by Theresa Powers

I just finished reading through this wonderful book. If you are interested in saving money and providing better nutrition for your baby, this book truly goes back to the basics and will give you detailed, easy to follow instructions for preparing your own healthy homemade baby food. Theresa uses easy, quick to follow charts to show cooking times and quantites and yield for all kinds of baby food.

This is also a fun book to read if you like vintage homemaking skills. She has it filled with all kinds of great quotes and vintage pictures regarding babies, food, and homemaking.

In addition to the very comprehensive section on baby food, she also included a generous selection of recipes for the whole family, using whole grains and fresh food.

Finally, she ends the book with how-tos on making your own bibs, baby wash cloths, cloth diapering and other basic skills for women.

If you are looking for an alternative book reminiscent of the wisdom of our grandmothers, this book will be a real treat for you! I thoroughly enjoyed reading it and look forward to making some of the recipes for my family. Also, if we are blessed with more children (or grandchildren!), I will grab this book and look up some of the great “Mommy projects” in the back of the book.
